It’s shitty to refuse to acknowledge sacrifice because acknowledging it would call into question what it was for, but that’s precisely the point, isn’t it? There’s nothing Blair could do, short of admitting the whole thing is an enormous fuck-up based on a tissue of lies and wildly optimistic guesswork, which would properly acknowledge the sacrifices involved. But he’s not going to do that, is he? So it’s inevitably disappointing.
